Direction of Environmental Quality
Caracas, Capital District
Dear Director:
I am writing to inform you that, since a year ago approximately, the families, who we live in Urbanization XYZ - Aragua State, have been exposed to a great pollution produced by a plant of solid-waste treatment built in the zone.
The fact is that, since the plant was installed, it has been emanating great amounts of smoke. Simultaneously, the inhabitants of the zone have been presenting a variety of diseases linked to the respiratory system that require to be treated by specialists, becoming more recurrent each time, which induces to us to think that it is a consequence of the operation of the factory.
Therefore, we ask you to direct an evaluation on the quality of air in the zone in order to the needed actions are taken to eliminate or minimize the impact that this practice causes to the health of the people who we live here as well as to preserve our atmosphere.
Respectfully,
Militza Macías

Dear Sir
Recently the car of my friend Laura was stolen from her house in Caracas. I have noticed that she is in troubles to go to her job, because she has a disability that avoids her to take public transportation, like other people, to go there. I think neither Caracas is prepared to accept this especial people nor public policies are generated to help this people in their activities and to avoid this kind of crime in the city.
Could you please write some stuff about this topic in your magazine? I believe that your well known magazine can influence people and politicians to improve disability people life’s. I think you can suggest in your article incorporating public transportation with facilities to them, creating especial services and for crime….creating jobs for unoccupied people who rob other people and improve policeman earns.
Cordially

Daily Updates
Caracas
Dear Director of “People's Mail” column:
I am writing to request your help to publish this letter in his famous column, which I read every day to learn the things that happen in my community.
I live in San Francisco de Yare, so, I have to travel every day to Caracas, and it really bugs me to have to breathe the impure air because of cars’ pollution. You can’t imagine how the most of buses and trucks are going spelling carbon monoxide freely on the highway. I think air pollution does affect not only us here in this zone, but also all atmosphere; all users this way have to be affected by cars’ pollution because it can get to levels that may causes problems in our health. Some effects can range from triggering or worsening of asthma, eyes, throat and lung irritation and respiratory diseases, including cardio pulmonary problems. As you can see, it is a really public health problem.
Can be possible that some institution take the time and make to follow the environment laws? I’d read recently that about 70 percent of our air pollution should be caused by cars.
Maybe, governments can encourage the reduction of vehicular use by:
* Promoting Voluntary abstention
* Increase Public Transit - diversify options and limit access to existing roads.
* Separate commercial and private traffic to increase efficient use of roads
* To build more walking paths, bicycle routes and roads for small electric vehicles
* Reward car-pools and car-sharing plans
* Road Tolls and increased gasoline and vehicle registration taxes
* Base car license fees on fuel consumption in the previous year. Use exponential fee rate increase for high fuel consumption individuals.
* Provide generous development grants and tax incentives for all non-polluting transportation alternatives.
Finally, I think that cars’ drivers should be arrested if do not stop to damage our society.
Sincerely,
Trina González
